Be My Guest
September 23, 2009
Written By: Phyllis Cox

For those of you who didn't see the comment from Jackie Dantzler with All American Crankshaft Co. regarding my latest blog here it is...

You are so right, Phyllis. I have seen mothers turn in their seats while driving down the road to speak to, correct, argue, feed, etc. a child. So if that driver isn't paying attention and then the driver behind or coming up on them isn't paying attention the potential for horrific accidents just tripled. What is more important than the safety of the ones we love? Should be nothing...no CD, song on the radio, phone call, text message, GPS device. And when I say protecting our loved ones that includes what it would do to them if we were killed doing something ridiculous (real dangerous) in a vehicle. More to our industry.....many more serious engine failures could be lessen or reduced if the operator of that backhoe, motorgrader, tractor did not have the music in the cab so loud that he did not hear the engine sputter, ping, rattle, or begin to knock before a rod came out the side. Just my two cents worth today. Be safe out there. Jackie

Jackie's comment brought my thoughts around to how you as a member can play it safe in your businesses.  And...it prompted me to ask Jackie to "Be My Guest" and write a blog for us.  So...I'm extending this invitation to all of you.  We've already been educated by Eric Benton with Southeast Tractor Parts who wrote a blog for us.  So, if you are interested just drop me an email and we'll get you set up as well.

Hope you are having a great week.  And...ditto what Jackie said, "Be safe out there!"

Are You Playing it Safe?
September 15, 2009

This morning I was up early walking my dog downtown.  It's always interesting to just look around at people, buildings...sites in general.  But sometimes things happen that make you stop and think.  As I was walking I heard a siren...wasn't sure if it was the police or an ambulance or a fire truck so I stopped and watched where the sound was coming from.  I saw the police car speed toward the intersection and then he had to brake for a car coming across the intersection paying no attention to the siren....the police had to brake for the other car.  People are just not paying attention anymore and I blame it on cell phones and texting while driving as well as everyone just being caught up in their own world.  I admit I'm guilty of talking on the phone while I'm driving....and I've texted while driving.  But...after the online video about what can happen to you while texting I've cut that out of my life.  Are you playing it safe when you drive...are you watching out for the other guy...are you talking on your phone with a hands free device and are you NOT texting?  Just some thoughts because I want all of you to be safe.

I hope all of you had a great weekend and as you know it's almost time to get those conference and trade show registrations out to you.  I can't believe trade show time is right around the corner.  This year we are going to provide you with the forms in two ways - on our website...just print them out and fax/mail them in....or use the registration forms that will be provided in the next issue of the Bulletin.  Watch your emails for more information.

Until next time....play it safe.....

It's Almost Show Time
September 1, 2009
Written By: Phyllis Cox

Has the summer flown by for all of you as fast as it has for me?  Seems like just a few weeks ago we were enjoying the nice weather in Texas at our conference and trade show.  But, that's been about 8 months ago and we are working fast and furious getting ready for our 26th annual conference and trade show in Nashville.  And I hope you've marked your calendars for January 13-17, 2010.  We've got another great show planned for all of you.  It's a great time for everyone within the association to get together to socialize and network with one another.  So...we hope to see you there!  We have some great speakers lined up along with a returning keynote speaker - Karen McCullough.  In the next issue of the Bulletin we will include the Program at a Glance and information regarding the speakers, the spouse program and our Saturday night planned activities.  You won't want to miss this opportunity to visit with your fellow members involved in the tractor parts industry.  See you there!

Until next time...
